The Board of Trustees
The Trustees of Indiana University are IU’s governing board and legal owner. IU alumni elect three of the nine trustees, and Indiana’s governor appoints the other six, including one student. The board meets four times a year, and meetings are open to the public.
President
Pamela Whitten, a visionary scholar, became IU's nineteenth president on July 1, 2021.

He was appointed Provost and Executive Vice President in 2022. He serves as the chief academic officer for the IU Bloomington campus community.
Rahul Shrivastav’s biography Provost and Executive VPHe became dean in 2013. In that role, he administers all nine campuses of the School of Medicine.
Jay Hess’s biography IU School of MedicineShe was appointed as the inaugural chancellor of IU Indianapolis in 2024. She previously served as executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of Missouri.

Susan Sciame-Giesecke’s biography VP for Regional Campuses and Online EducationShe was appointed as chief of staff in 2022, and as vice president for strategic operations in 2024. In her roles, she advises the president on a wide range of operational and organizational initiatives, and works closely with executive leadership on the attainment of the president’s strategic goals.
Brenda Stopher's biography Office of the PresidentHe was appointed in 2021. He is the university's top fiscal officer and oversees budgetary and financial issues across nine campuses.
Dwayne Pinkney's biography EVP for Finance and AdministrationShe was appointed in 2023. She is also Associate Vice Chancellor for International Affairs at IUPUI. Vice President Hannah Buxbaum is on leave during the 2023-24 school year.
About Hilary Kahn International AffairsHe was appointed in 2023. He oversees research development, administration, and compliance for the university’s expansive research enterprise.
Russell Mumper's biography ResearchShe was appointed in 2022. She leads University Communications and Marketing and works with leaders across the university to help tell IU’s story.
About Nancy Paton Communications and MarketingHe was appointed in 2022. He previously served as chief executive officer of the IU Alumni Association.
J T. Forbes's biography IU FoundationHe was appointed to the position in July 2020. His work with IU Athletics started when he served as a student manager for the men’s basketball team in the ’80s.
Scott Dolson’s biography IU AthleticsHe was appointed in 2022. He is responsible for leading human resources strategy, talent acquisition, leadership development, organizational design, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and people operations for all of IU’s campuses.
Todd Richardson's biography Human ResourcesHe was appointed in 2020 and leads university-wide IT services on all nine campuses.
Rob Lowden’s biography Vice President for IT and CIOHe was appointed to the position in 2009 and is responsible for the physical infrastructure and development of IU’s nine campuses.
Thomas Morrison’s biography Capital Planning and FacilitiesHe was appointed to the position in 2022. He advises IU’s Board of Trustees and administration on legal issues and serves as the point of contact on all legal matters involving the university. He reports to both the president and the Board of Trustees.
Anthony Prather's biography VP and General CounselHe leads IU's government relations efforts at the state and federal level, as well as economic engagement, partnering with Indiana business leaders and communities to enhance the vitality of the state.
Michael Huber’s biography University RelationsHe was appointed in 2013 and is responsible for leading the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Wimbush holds the Johnson Chair for Diversity and Leadership and is a Professor of Business Administration in the Kelley School of Business.
James Wimbush’s biography Diversity, Equity, and InclusionShe was appointed in 2022 and works with leaders across all campuses to develop and guide the implementation of strategic initiatives to enhance the student experience.
Julie Payne-Kirchmeier’s biography Vice President for Student SuccessRegional campus chancellors
These chancellors lead IU’s regional campuses.
He was appointed in 2023. He is a former IU Bloomington professor of African American studies and criminal justice with broad, collaborative experience in academic and student affairs.
About Dennis Rome IU EastShe was appointed in 2019. She previously served as the provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Susan Elrod’s biography IU South BendHe was appointed in 2020. Previously, he served as the College of Staten Island's founding Vice President for the Division of Economic Development, Continuing Studies, and Government Relations.
Ken Iwama’s biography IU NorthwestHe was appointed to the role in 2022. He previously served as IU Kokomo’s deputy chancellor, as well as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs.
Mark Canada’s biography IU Kokomo Office of the ChancellorShe was appointed in July 2023. An IU alumna, she previously held leadership roles at universities in Wisconsin, Florida, and Kentucky.
